Situated along the perimeter circuit of the Linkou Golf Club, this new rest station replaces an aging structure that was no longer suitable for renovation. The brief required a simple, durable facility that could provide air-conditioned comfort during daytime hours while remaining secure and functional for golfers who may use the course at night. Previous rest stations had been vulnerable to burglary and vandalism, making safety and robustness essential design considerations.
The project explores the simplest possible architectural expression: a compact concrete structure that houses only the essential programs – restroom, fresh water access, a small service room, and the necessary electrical, water, and gas meters. At its core is a central service “box” containing the kitchen and cashier facilities. During the day, large glass sliding doors enclose the inner space, enabling air-conditioned comfort for staff and users. At night, these doors retract into concealed pockets within the central box, which can be securely locked. With the glazing open, the building becomes a fully open-air pavilion available for use by golfers after hours.
All fixed furniture – including tables and chairs – is cast in concrete to deter vandalism and minimize maintenance. The concrete structure and pared-down layout create a calm, durable presence in the landscape, framing views outward while quietly supporting the rhythms of activity on the course.
